Wax Removal

Compared to ear syringing or mechanical extraction, ear wax micro-suction is safer and less intrusive to remove ear wax. It involves using low suction to remove debris like foreign bodies and ear wax(cerumen) from the ear canal. During the procedure, the audiologist wears a magnifier with a high-illumination lens and uses tools like a suction probe to remove ear wax.

Our team will comprehensively assess your ear canal before and after the procedure to detect any indication of wax build-up or foreign objects. We will utilise a state-of-the-art visualisation tool known as video otoscopy to thoroughly examine the ear canal and ensure the health of the eardrum (Tympanic membrane).

Hearing Assessment for Veterans

There are two potential avenues for veterans residing in Australia to access crucial hearing services. The first option is the Hearing Services Program, overseen by the Department of Health. The Department of Veterans Affairs provides the second alternative. It is important to note that both options offer invaluable assistance to veterans grappling with hearing difficulties. Whether seeking support through the Hearing Services Program or the Department of Veterans Affairs, veterans can receive the proper care and attention necessary to address their hearing issues.

Hearing Assessment for Occupation

If you’re seeking an occupation with New South Wales Police, or if you’re a commercial driver or industrial worker, it is imperative that you undergo a comprehensive hearing assessment. These assessments are crucial to pre-employment medical checks or regular employment hearing screening. You can rest assured that at Hunter Valley Audiology, our Audiologist is fully accredited and qualified, so you can expect exceptional service that you can rely on. We emphasise the importance of ensuring you have the necessary auditory capabilities to perform your job safely and effectively.

We understand that hearing loss can be a significant cause of discomfort, so we conduct a thorough evaluation to understand the nature and extent of your hearing loss. This allows us to recommend the most appropriate treatment options and hearing solutions to improve your overall quality of life.

Hearing Aid Fitting

If you are experiencing difficulties hearing conversations or sounds, our clinic can provide you with professional hearing aid fitting services. Our team of experienced audiologists will guide you through the entire process, from selecting the best hearing aid for your needs to customising it to your specific abilities.

At Hunter Valley Audiology, we understand that each individual’s hearing needs are unique. Therefore, we take the time to assess your hearing abilities and prescribe the most appropriate hearing aids for you. As an independent hearing practice, we offer the latest and most current hearing aids from most major brands in the industry.

It is essential to use and maintain your newly purchased hearing aids correctly. Your audiologist at Hunter Valley Audiology will program the devices according to your needs and provide you with instructions on inserting and removing them, replacing batteries, and cleaning them. We recommend bringing a family member or friend to your fitting appointment to ensure you remember all the critical information given.

We know that adjusting to new sounds when you first begin wearing hearing aids can be challenging. But don’t worry, your audiologist will make minor adjustments to the devices during your first fitting to ensure clear and comfortable sound. You may also be asked to complete a short survey or questionnaire to determine how well the machines work for you.

We use Real Ear Testing to fit your hearing aids with precision. This test involves placing a tiny tube into your ear canal and playing calibrated sounds or speech through a speaker to measure how your hearing aids amplify the sounds. We can then make any necessary adjustments to ensure you hear speech clearly and comfortably.

After your fitting, we will conduct several rechecks of your hearing aids’ effectiveness during the first 30 days. We will also teach you how to clean and maintain them and provide strategies to help you get the most out of them. If any issues arise, we can diagnose and fix them accordingly.

Follow-up appointments every 12 months or as needed are essential. We will examine your ears professionally, clean and service your hearing aids, and discuss any add-on products that may benefit you. If your hearing changes, we can retest and reprogram your hearing aids to accommodate your new level of hearing loss. With a positive attitude and close collaboration with your audiologist, you can confidently get the most out of your new hearing aids.
